Letter to The Concerned for Working Children from Suchitra Rao of India Literacy Project and Consultant – Children’s Rights

Congratulations to all of you at CWC and all the panchayat and community members who have been part of the process initiated by you! A momentous occasion in the history of local governance.

As you have shared the efforts of the last six months has paid off handsomely and in the most befitting way – cognizance of women and children’s issues in the Karnataka’s Gram Swaraj movement! Any society can claim to be civilised and decent only when its women, children, aged and disadvantaged live with dignity and what better way than through strengthening local governance!

Special thanks to Nandana for leading the process and the Andolana – her consistent commitment and passion shared and supported by the CWC core team has made this possible.

Best wishes and wishing CWC many more laurels in making good governance a reality!

Suchitra

  • When you look into a child’s eyes you expect to see hope, trust and innocence; but when you see these signs of childhood are replaced by betrayal, hunger, fear & suspicion, we need to take a serious stock of ourselves and the society we have created.
