Me & My Vote are NOT for SALE campaign

This campaign is hosted by the Grama Panchayat Hakkottaya Andolana (Movement for Self-determination of Local Governments). The movement consists of representatives from the gram panchayat and gram sabhas of Karnataka and was launched on 16th May 2007. It is devoted to secure and safeguard the provisions of democratic decentralisation and devolution of power enshrined in the Constitution of India and aims to strengthen these elected local governance institutions, at the grassroots, by empowering them to become effective instruments of development and social justice.

It is the understanding and experience of GPHA that the monetary valuation of votes, other than being unethical and illegal, takes from the voter their abstract but deeply valuable, sovereignty – to act on behalf of their individual or collective self – and empties public life of moral argument. The foundation of good governance begins with us the voters. If we, the citizens, use our votes judiciously, we can change the face of Indian politics.
