Making Play a Right: CWC’s Local-to-Global Impact on the International Day of Play (2023–2025)
Posted on July 16, 2025
Continuing our pivotal involvement in the global movement to declare June 11th as the International Day of Play, The Concerned for Working Children (CWC) continued to highlight the Right to Play in 2025. In this campaign—initiated by the LEGO Foundation and now led globally by UNICEF in 2025—CWC is proud to be a founding partner and a core member of the International Planning Team 2025.
What Did CWC Do?
• CWC worked closely with international teams to raise awareness at the United Nations level.• We led global consultations with over 10,000 children, including 450 children from Karnataka’s Vijayanagara and Udupi districts.
• We helped children from our areas become part of the International Child and Youth Advisory Group (CAYAG). These children shared their thoughts and created a global Children’s Call to Action to promote play as a right for every child.
National and State Efforts
In India, CWC organised many events and programmes to celebrate International Day of Play (IDOP) 2024 and to promote the Right to Play for 2025.
Thanks to these efforts, many government departments in Karnataka—including the Departments of Child Protection, Disabilities, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR), and the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR)—have committed to support and protect children’s right to play.
Children and civil society partners across India and around the world have also come together to highlight that every child has the right to play!
We are happy to share a detailed report of our work
